What to buy for a badminton match
A badminton match needs more than rackets and shuttles. You will need court equipment, scoring supplies, player identification, refreshments and a practical setup for the competition table. Check the venue before shopping: nets, poles and furniture may already be available, while grips, tape and spare shuttles are easy to overlook. Plan drinks and snacks from the final participant count, then chill beverages and print the competition forms before match day.

Tips
- Count one reusable cup per participant, plus at least 10% extra for replacements. Bring separate coffee cups if coffee is being served at the catering table.
- Buy spare shuttles rather than relying on exactly one tube per court. The number needed depends on match length, but a reserve prevents play from stopping when shuttles become worn.
- Check every racket and net at least 2 days before the match. Spare grips, court marking tape and replacement equipment are much harder to arrange once the sports hall is open.
- Prepare the competition table with scoreboards, whistles, printed forms, a laptop, printer and power supplies. Pack extension cords, power strips and power banks together so setup does not depend on one wall socket.
- Use the confirmed participant list to calculate snacks and drinks, and chill beverages several hours before arrival. Pack serving trays, small bowls, plates and cutlery with the catering supplies instead of leaving them for a last-minute shop.
Frequently asked questions
- What equipment do I need for a badminton match?
- For each court, plan a badminton net, two net poles, rackets and shuttles. Also bring court marking tape, a scoreboard and a whistle, plus spare grips and extra shuttles for damaged or worn equipment.
- How many badminton shuttles should I buy?
- Do not buy only the exact number needed for scheduled matches. Start with at least one unopened reserve tube per court and add more when matches are long, competitive or played with feather shuttles.
- How many drinks should I buy for a badminton competition?
- Allow roughly 2 to 3 drinks per person for the first hour, then about 1 drink per person for each additional hour. Add extra water for warm halls and provide coolers, thermos flasks or water dispensers as needed.
- When should I prepare the shopping for a badminton match?
- Check the complete list at least 3 days before the match and shop no later than 1 day beforehand. Chill drinks several hours before the start, and print forms and prepare badges before venue setup begins.
