Animal auction shopping list

An animal auction needs more than tables and a microphone. You will need separate supplies for animal care, transport, registration, payments and visitor safety. Plan one registration setup, printed catalogues and auction cards for every lot, plus enough water, feed and bedding for the animals while they are on site. Order printed materials and specialist equipment early, because replacements are difficult to arrange on auction day.

Tips

  • Prepare one registration desk with clipboards, pens, name badges, lot stickers, catalogues and auction cards. Have at least one spare pen and extra stickers available for last-minute registrations or relabelling.
  • Match each animal enclosure with suitable water tubs, feed bowls, drink buckets and ground cover. Count these by enclosure rather than buying one shared set, so animals can be cared for without moving equipment around.
  • Keep transport boxes, travel baskets, collars and line pieces together in a clearly marked handling area. Check quantities against the animal list before the event, not when animals begin arriving.
  • Set up a separate payment point with purchase receipts, a cash box and a payment terminal. Test the terminal and prepare receipt paper at least one day beforehand, especially if mobile reception at the venue is uncertain.
  • Use crowd-control barriers and warning signs to separate visitors from enclosures and handling areas. Add blankets, towels, brushes and hay bins to the care supplies so volunteers can deal with routine cleaning and animal comfort during the sale.

Frequently asked questions

What supplies do I need for an animal auction?
You need animal enclosures, transport boxes, water and feed containers, care supplies, registration materials, payment equipment and crowd-control items. Plan quantities from the animal list and number of lots rather than estimating for the whole event.
How many auction cards and lot stickers do I need?
Prepare at least one auction card and one lot sticker for every animal or sales lot, then add 10% spare materials. For 50 lots, prepare 55 cards and 55 stickers to cover corrections or damaged labels.
When should I order catalogues for an animal auction?
Order printed catalogues at least 7 days before the auction, once the animal list, lot numbers and sales terms are final. Keep a small digital or unprinted backup if details change after printing.
What should I prepare for animal care during the auction?
Provide one suitable enclosure setup per animal group, with water, feed, ground cover and safe handling equipment. Pack towels, brushes and spare bedding at least 1 day before arrival so volunteers are not searching for supplies during registration.
