What you need for an AED training session

An AED training session needs more than an AED trainer and a few chairs. Plan one practice station for each small group, with a CPR manikin, training electrodes, masks, gloves and a blanket at every station. You will also need presentation equipment, participant folders, name badges and certificates, plus coffee, tea and water for the break. Check batteries, cables and consumables at least one week before the session so missing items can still be replaced.

Tips

  • Set up one AED trainer and one CPR manikin for each practice station, then add a spare set of practice electrodes and respirator masks in case equipment is damaged or used incorrectly.
  • Count participant folders, name badges, ballpoint pens and certificates against the confirmed registration list, and prepare at least 5% extra of each paper item for late arrivals or replacements.
  • Check the AED trainer batteries and test the laptop, projector, HDMI cable, extension cords and power strips 3–5 days before training; do not leave the equipment check until the room opens.
  • For refreshments, provide at least one drinking glass per participant, one coffee cup per participant, and enough thermos flasks and water jugs for the full session, including the break.
  • Place nitrile gloves, hand sanitizer, training blankets and practice electrodes at each station before participants arrive; keep spare medical supplies together at the reception table for quick replacement.

Frequently asked questions

What equipment do I need for AED training?
You need AED trainers, CPR manikins, practice electrodes, respirator masks, nitrile gloves and training blankets. Plan one complete practice setup for each small group, plus at least one spare set of consumables.
How many CPR manikins do I need for an AED course?
Use one CPR manikin per practice station. For example, 12 participants can work efficiently with 3 stations of 4 people, while 16 participants need 4 stations of 4.
What refreshments should I buy for AED training?
Provide coffee, tea and water, with one cup and one glass per participant as a minimum. Add around 10% extra cups, glasses and servings for instructors, late arrivals and accidental spills.
When should I check the AED training materials?
Check batteries, manikin materials, practice electrodes and presentation equipment 3–5 days before the session. Do a final room and equipment check 30–60 minutes before participants arrive.
