What to Buy and Bring for an Adventure Camp
An adventure camp needs more than tents and snacks. You will need equipment for navigation, team activities, registration, lighting, food service, and a clear safety setup. This shopping list covers the practical items used for an orienteering tour, activity stations, group supervision, and evening camp routines. Check quantities against the number of participants, groups, and supervisors before shopping, then label shared equipment so it can be returned easily.

Tips
- Plan at least one compass, route map, and reflective vest for each supervising adult or activity group. Add a few spare maps and pens so a lost or damaged item does not stop the route.
- For drinks, prepare two to three servings per person for the first hour, then add extra water for the full programme and warm weather. Use coolers and thermos flasks to keep drinks available between activities.
- Pack one reusable cup per participant plus at least 10% extra. Bring cutting boards, suitable knives, scissors, and serving supplies before the food is set out; these are easy to overlook during shopping.
- Use waterproof route maps, flashlights, LED lanterns, and power banks if any part of the camp continues after daylight. Test the portable sound system and extension cords before participants arrive.
- Separate equipment by activity station and label each box before setup. Keep rope, cones, blindfolds, balance boards, balls, frisbees, and relay batons together so supervisors can check their station quickly.
Frequently asked questions
- How much water and food do I need for an adventure camp?
- Plan drinks for the entire programme rather than only the welcome period. As a starting point, allow two to three drinks per person in the first hour, plus fruit and additional water for later activities and hot weather.
- How many tents and tables do I need for an adventure camp?
- The number depends on the sleeping groups and the registration setup. Allow one registration desk, one table for every separate food or activity station, and enough benches or chairs for the largest group using the area at one time.
- What safety equipment should I bring to an adventure camp?
- Bring reflective vests, waterproof route maps, flashlights, first-aid and emergency supplies, and reliable communication equipment. Check the route and weather forecast at least 24 hours before the camp and again on the day itself.
- When should I buy and label adventure camp supplies?
- Buy non-perishable food, lighting, activity equipment, and tableware at least one week ahead. Label and pack the materials one to two days before the camp, then check batteries, power banks, sound equipment, and route maps on the morning of setup.
