Tips

  • Plan at least one match ball per active court, plus one spare basketball for every two courts. Add a ball pump and several needle sets so a low ball does not delay a game.
  • Allow one scoring setup per court: a scoreboard, game clock and spare batteries. Test every clock and scoreboard before tournament day, then pack extra batteries rather than relying on venue supplies.
  • Set up one registration or information table with at least two chairs, and add a separate table for refreshments if players and spectators will be served. Bring a printer and laptop only if registrations, schedules or results will be handled on site.
  • Check the venue’s power points before bringing extension cords, power strips and rechargeable work lights. Charge phones and power banks the night before, especially if volunteers will record results or contact referees during the day.
  • Buy or pack waste bins, reusable cups, plates and cutlery based on the expected number of users, then add a buffer of about 10 percent. Put bins beside the refreshment area and near the courts so cleanup does not become a final-hour job.

Frequently asked questions

How many basketballs do I need for a 3x3 tournament?
Use one match ball for each active court and keep at least one spare for every two courts. For example, three courts require three match balls plus two spares. Confirm the required ball size in the tournament rules before buying.
What equipment is needed to score 3x3 basketball games?
Each court needs a scoreboard and a game clock, with spare batteries for every device. Pack at least one backup scoring method, such as a printed schedule and paper results sheets, in case a clock or scoreboard fails.
How many tables and chairs should I provide?
Start with one registration table and two chairs, then add a table and two chairs for each staffed station, such as refreshments or results. Confirm the final number of volunteers at least one week before the tournament so the layout can be adjusted.
When should I buy supplies for a 3x3 basketball tournament?
Buy non-perishable equipment and disposable or reusable serving items at least one week in advance. Check balls, pumps, clocks, batteries, cables and lighting two to three days before the event, leaving enough time to replace missing or faulty items.
